Nikol Pashinyan congratulates Republican faction (video)
Armenia’s independence will be seriously jeopardized after the ratification of the treaty on the country’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), opposition lawmaker Nikol Pashinyan announced in parliament on December 3. He stressed that in the international organizations Armenia’s political elite is continually begging independence and political patronage. “Authorities in Armenia did everything for their citizens to hate their independence. Now that they have made our citizens homeless they are speaking about real politics with serious and wise faces. In fact, the acting political elite have neither will-power not an opportunity to have a sovereign country. During their international meetings, Armenian officials complain that Azerbaijan’s military budget is larger than that of Armenia while each citizen in Armenia knows that personal budget of Robert Kocharyan or Serzh Sargsyan is much larger than the state budget,” he said. Nikol Pashinyan says there is a big lie hidden behind the treaty. “The authorities say that this is a process of integration, but in fact, it is a process of isolation. Azerbaijan and Turkey have always pursued a policy of isolation. They are isolating us from the West, the EEU from the North and South limiting the opportunities of deepening ties with Georgia and Iran. The Civil Contract Initiative [I am affiliated with] believes that we should strengthen our ties with the two neighbouring countries but the EEU membership will prevent us from becoming a transit country for Iranian gas whereas the project could strengthen Armenia’s position economically. Tureky and Azerbaijan and now the EEU are against the project.” The MP thinks that after joining the EEU Armenia will eventually lose its strategic motivations and become a wretched tenant in the EEU territory. This could lead to inevitable consequences and we shall face demographic problems. I am against the EEU and I am ready to fight for our future, for our sovereignty. Some people here say after the EEU membership we shall be granted certain privileges. In particular, we shall not have to pay sugar import duty, for which I congratulate the Republican faction,” said Mr Pashinyan.
