Who says the cooperation will not work out: it is already progressing, Republican faction lawmaker Hamlet Harutyunyan said on Wednesday speaking about the possible cooperation between the opposition and authorities. At the suggestion of Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, Parliament Speaker Galust Sahakyan has met with representatives of all parliamentary factions to discuss the 12-point demands submitted by the parliamentary minority. The Armenian National Congress (HAK) refused to participate in the meeting, while the Heritage and Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) disagreed with all proposals. However, the authorities have not lost hope. “And who says that an agreement should be reached between the sides immediately after the first meeting? Everything will be OK. We are not enemies, are we?” he said. Hamlet Harutyunyan says the non-governing troika should not present the set of the 12 demands as an ultimatum, but as a compromise because all the points may be consistent with the interests of the people. The Country of Law Party (OEK) has participated in the meeting with the parliament speaker. Head of the OEK faction Heghine Bisharyan agrees with the opposition trio that negotiations with the authorities over the demands are meaningless. “If the government wants to cooperate with any political force on a definite issue, our legislative initiatives can become a bridge for cooperation,” she said. Mr Harutyunyan does not take this statement seriously. “There are more political businessmen in the political domain than political parties,” he says.
