A senior member of the Social Democrat Hunchakian Party (SDHK) has criticized Wednesday’s downing of an Artsakh Army helicopter by Azerbaijan near the Line of Contact. “The downing of an Artsakh Army helicopter by Azerbaijani forces is nothing more than an invitation to war. That Armenian Armed forces will give an adequate response is out question. However, the political content of the question is very important. SDHK is convinced that after such provocation Yerevan’s participation in the negotiation process should be suspended immediately until the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic becomes a full-fledged participant of the talks. It is senseless to continue negotiations with Aliyev after the crime. SDHK extends condolences to the families of the killed airmen and hopes that there will be fair retribution,” Hakob Tigranyan said. At around 1:45 p.m. on November 12, Azerbaijani forces shot an Mi-24 military helicopter belonging to the Artsakh Armed Forces, killing three servicemen. The helicopter was on a training mission and according to the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Defense Ministry was unarmed. Baku claimed that the helicopter shot at Azerbaijani positions in Aghdam on the border of Artsakh and Azerbaijan. The allegation was dismissed by the Karabakh authorities, who added that after shooting down the helicopter, the Azerbaijani forces continued the shelling of Karabakh positions throughout the afternoon.
