Armenian MoD: Consequences of this unprecedented escalation will be very painful for Azerbaijan
The downing of the Armenian helicopter by the Azerbaijani armed forces near the border with Artsakh was an unprecedented provocation, which resulted in the escalation of the situation, Spokesman for the Armenian Ministry of Defense Artsrun Hovhannnisyan wrote on his Facebook. “Unreasonable are Azerbaijan’s assertions that the Armenian helicopters attacked their positions and they opened retaliatory fire. The investigation of the debris of the helicopter will prove that the helicopter was not armed. Azerbaijan continued to aggravate the situation even after downing the helicopter. Moreover, the shelling from the Azerbaijani side did not allow us to approach our pilots. The consequences of this unprecedented escalation will be very painful for Azerbaijan and will remain on the conscience of the military and political leadership of the country [Azerbaijan],” said Mr Hovhannisyan. The commander of the helicopter was Major Sergey Sahakyan, the Spokesman said, adding that further information about the fate of the crew would be provided later.
