Shahen Petrosyan: Aeroflot monopolizes Armenian aviation (video)
Air tickets from Yerevan to Sochi, Minvody and Rostov-on-Don have risen dramatically, becoming 74 000 drams while in summer tickets to Sochi cost 45,000 drams. Airlines account the increased prices for the lack of competition. After the cessation of flights operated by Air Armenia Company, Aeroflot became the only carrier in these destinations. The reason is the monopoly. It turns out that the termination of Air Armenia’s flights did not only harm the company, but also passengers. Armenia’s only airline was forced to take the step because of the sanctions against Russia. Former head of the Civil Aviation Department Shahen Petrosyan believes that Aeroflot seeks to monopolize aviation in the Eurasian Economic Union. He says the absence of a national carrier can become fatal for Armenia
