Fewer unemployed turn up to jobcentres

The number of unemployed people seems to have declined at employment centres in Armenia after the elimination of the unemployment benefit system, which deprived people of their monthly unemployment benefits of 18,000 drams. “The decline can also be explained by the fact that many are leaving the country to work overseas,” says Sona Soghomonyan, Head of the Erebuni-Nubarashen Employment Centre. About 2400 job seekers are registered at the centre. This year, the centre has found work for 430 people, who were offered jobs in different industries. The centre also pays transportation costs of job seekers. As of September 1, 68 400 people are looking for a job in Armenia. Only 7026 of them have been recruited with the help of the State Employment Service Agency.
