Either authorities shut down small hydropower plants in Armenia, or we lose our agriculture, the chairman of the Agrarian-Peasant Union of Armenia announced on September 26. “The entire Shirak province did not have potato plants this year. Villagers could not water potato crops [because potatoes need consistent moisture] and all because of hydropower plants,” said Hrach Berberyan. “We have repeatedly said that it is necessary to set up committees to study the existence of so many small hydropower plants in our country,” he added. Mr Berberyan predicts a decline in the export of potatoes and increase in the price.  At the same time, he was proud to say that our potato is popular in the world. "Recently, a farmer came to Armenia from the Netherlands and he was surprised to see Armenians growing and harvesting healthy potatoes among stones,” he said. Speaking about the president’s decision to award a number of specialists in the irrigation sector, Mr Berberyan said, “So many people are awarded in our country. The president may have made a mistake. Never mind!”
