Political analyst Alexander Iskandaryan says the so-called ‘opposition quartet’ has never existed; representatives of different parliamentary factions simply came to terms over certain issues and decided to cooperate on them. “Armenia's primary goal is not to unite the opposition, but to create opposition,” he said. Speaking about the opposition’s upcoming rally, the political analyst said one of the opposition’s functions is to rally supporters from time to time and speak against the Republicans. “The promises of a ‘hot’ autumn and the like are simply a means to justify the existence of opposition, which is quite normal. But I have some reservations concerning the ‘radical’ changes expected after the October 10 rally,” said Mr Iskandaryan. He says the opposition does not pose a serious danger to the Republicans, just on the contrary, the Republicans enjoy the presence of such opposition.  Nor does the expert believe that the October 10 rally will lead to a change in power. In reply to A1+’s question whether a serious obstacle can emerge during the talks that may extend or hinder Armenia’s membership to the Eurasian Economic Union, the political analyst said, “I cannot exclude such a possibility, but one thing is evident. Sooner or later, Armenia will ratify the document and join the Russian-led Customs Union as Russia supports Armenia’s accession. As you know, Russian can influence Belarus and Kazakhstan within the realm of its possibilities.”
