Former Chief of Investigation Department arrested

Charges were brought against a former Chief of Investigation Department of Yerevan Administration of the Police of the Republic of Armenia Kamisar Poghosyan in the Special Investigation Service of the Republic of Armenia under Article 311, Part 4, Paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia on the grounds that he, using his official position, demanded and received from Arsen P. a substantial amount of money as a bribe totaling 7000 US dollars for mediating and assisting his appointment to the post of an Inspector of “Traffic Police” Service of the Republic of Armenia. It should be reminded that according to the report of a citizen Arsen P., a criminal case has been instituted in the Special Investigation Service of the Republic of Armenia based on the materials prepared in the Criminal Investigation General Department of the Police of the Republic of Armenia under Article 311, Part 4,. Paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. An arrest has been determined in regard to Kamisar Poghosyan as a measure of restraint. As a result of the search made in the apartment of Kamisar Poghosyan, the following items were detected and confiscated: 20 pieces of cartridges of “AK” type self-firing automatic weapon with one cartridge clip, 13 pieces of shells of the same self-firing automatic weapon, 2 shells of carbine, 2 pieces of brass knuckles and 1 piece of Italian-made gas gun. The above items were sent for forensic ballistics expertise. The investigatory body has doubts as to the fact that other citizens might have suffered from the actions of Kamisar Poghosyan who can apply to the Special Investigation Service of the Republic of Armenia or telephone 010 511-601 and 511-609. A preliminary investigation is under way, reports the SIS Press Service. A person suspected or accused of an alleged crime is presumed innocent until proved guilty in the procedure established by the Criminal Procedure Code of RA by the effective court judgement.
