Food prices went up by 2.5 percent in November

Featured news Economy

The prices of food, vegetables and fruit rise in Armenia almost every day. However, salespeople say they do not benefit from it. “Yes, the prices are going up but it does not do any good to us. There are no buyers. We cannot even afford to pay the rents. You can hardly find a person who does not have bank loans,” said a saleswoman. A sharp increase in prices has been observed in recent months in Armenia. In particular, the price of bread has gone up from AMD 90 to AMD 100.  Buyers have to pay AMD 374 to buy one kilogram of sugar instead of former AMD 333. Buckwheat costs AMD 670, earlier it cost AMD 550. The same picture is observed with many products. By the way, you can hardly find eggs on shop shelves. Chickens don't lay eggs at this season and the existing eggs have been stored safely to be sold on New Year’s Eve at high prices. The depreciation of the Armenia dram has also affected the economic entities. Statistics show that the prices of potato, cucumber, green pepper, tomato, egg-plant, greens, cauliflower and radish have gone up significantly. On the whole, food prices have gone up by 2.5% in November compared with October.
