Martziget1 SHPP to be operated soon
Support A1+!Martziget1 SHPP will be operated soon: on 3 October during EcoLur’s visit to Martz Village the villagers said that SHPP is currently being tested, EcoLur reports. Reminder: Martz villagers, who opposed to the construction of Martziget-1 SHPP by “Martz Energy” LLC, in November 2013 blocked Armenia – Georgia highway together with green environmentalists. Earlier, they had addressed a complaint letter with 300 signatures to Nature Protection Ministry. Then, they threw off the pipes designed for SHPP into the river. But after a while, the residents got silent under the pressures and the SHPP construction works were launched. What happened in the meantime, the villagers told EcoLur asking not to publicise their names. “Eight people out of our villagers gave their consent and the construction of the SHPP was launched not taking into consideration our 300 signatures…Nature Protection Ministry representatives arrived and instead of listening to our problems, they spoke in favour of the SHPP…10 people were employed in Alaverdi, several people were employed at SHPP and they got silent… The police interrogated me for every word I said. I’m sick and tired of all this: I’m gonna leave here. You will see nobody will stay here in two years… ...You should have seen how they were taking out pipes of the river. They drove crane machine here, it fell off into the water, then they drove the crane working on the school construction to take out the fallen crane and pipes…The building of the SHPP existed before, where we had pumps, which pumped water to Dsegh, which they granted to the SHPP...”” Under the Public Services Regulatory Committee, “Martziget-2” SHPP is constructed on the river operated by “Argishti-1” LLC, while “Martziget-1” will be operated by “Martz Energy” Company, Two SHPPs will pipe a total of 10530 meters from the river length s, which will make up 36.310345% of the river length. Under EcoLur’s Ecological Risk Model, it will be disastrous for the river.
