Hovannisian: "My conscience will not allow me to close a deal"
Heritage party leader Raffi Hovannisian, the official runner-up in last month's presidential election, says he will be glad if Serzh Sargsyan agrees to meet to discuss the post-election standoff in the country. Hovannisian said this during his meeting with journalists in Freedom Square where he is staging a hunger strike in protest against the outcome of the February ballot that gave victory to Serzh Sargsyan.
We can meet with Serzh Sargsyan at one of the cafés in the square, and people can follow our meeting," said Hovannisian.
The Heritage party leader says he will not take any position in state institutions.
"My conscience will not allow me to close a deal with Serzh Sargsyan. Our demands remain unchanged. If Serzh Sargsyan wants, he can also present his proposals but he must share the power with the people," Raffi Hovannisian said stressing that the people are the only legitimate source of power.
Mr Hovannisian also referred to his party's list in the upcoming elections to the Council of Elders.
"We are participating in the election in a fusion ticket and I endorse it. This is a triumphant list," he said.
