Armenian, German FMs speak about Karabakh conflict settlement
Armenian and German foreign ministers, Edward Nalbandian and Guido Westerwelle, met in Berlin on Thursday.
Welcoming his Armenian counterpart, the German FM said he remembers his visit to Armenia last year and waits for another opportunity to be in Armenia. He said he is pleased with the high level political dialogue between the two countries, stressing that Germany is interested in development of cooperation with Armenia. Minister Nalbandian thanked the German official for the invitation to Berlin and said Armenian-German relations have been developing since Armenia's independence and have got fresh impetus during the recent years.
The Armenian FM stressed that Germany is one of the biggest investors in Armenia's economy that supports the programs implemented in the sector.
"Armenia conducts peacekeeping activities in Afghanistan together with the German contingent, and this cooperation has proved its effectiveness," Nalbandian added.
The ministers emphasized that the cooperation between the two countries is developing, there is a strong legal and contractual framework, the inter-parliamentary contacts are active, and the business ties are expanding.
The interlocutors referred to the cooperation in cultural and education spheres, as well as the prospects of implementation of joint programs.
At the request of the German FM, Edward Nalbandian presented the developments over the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement, the efforts taken by Armenia and international community. The ministers also referred to the relations between Armenia and the EU and cooperation in the framework of Eastern Partnership.
On the same day, Edward Nalbandian met with Wolfgang Börnsen, the head of the Germany-South Caucasus Parliamentary Friendship Group in the German Bundestag.
Armenia's FM said parliamentary diplomacy is an important format in the development of relations between states, and he welcomed the German MPs' steps towards deepening Armenian-German ties.
Ending his visit to Germany, Edward Nalbandian left for Greece.
