The formal charges brought against presidential candidate Vardan Sedrakyan, who is accused of masterminding the assassination attempt on presidential candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan, are not persuasive, especially when they are presented as an attempt to divert the course of elections, says political scientist Manvel Sargsyan.

"I had serious doubts in regard with the hypothesis which was presented as a conspiracy or something of the kind. It was inconclusive anyway," he said.

The political scientist recalled Hayrikyan's statement that the shooting attack was an attempt to hatch a conspiracy against Armenia plotted by external forces. Mr Sargsyan does not exclude that the attempted murder could have been ordered by the acting authorities in Armenia who, in all likelihood, felt deviations in the election process.

"Today everyone is interested in one question: who ordered the assassination attempt," said Mr Sargsyan.
Political scientist Levon Shirinyan underscores the importance to disclose the assault as a key step in building a legal country.

He cannot understand why Sedrakyan was involved in the presidential race.
