Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly, Hovik Abrahamyan, today met with representatives of the Heritage and Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun) parties to discuss the possibility of a special parliament session to discuss post-election developments in the country.

Talking to reporters in the National Assembly, Mr Abrahamyan said they are working on the text of a statement to be adopted at the end of the special session.
"I do not agree with the opinion that the governors and heads of communities where Serzh Sargsyan lost in the Feb. 18 polls, should resign. I repeat once again that the resignations were not obliged by the Republican Party of Armenia or authorities," said the NA Speaker.

Speaking about the nation-wide protests led by Heritage party leader Raffi Hovannisian and his tough statements, Mr Abrahamyan said they conflict with the constitution.

"All political parties should accept their defeat and congratulate the winning candidate. I suggest that Raffi Hovannisian present his proposals and package of reforms to the authorities for further discussion instead of rallying people across the country," he added.

Abrahamyan says Hovannisian applied all Western technologies during the campaign and now he had better submit his reasonable offers for discussions.

Hovik Abrahamyan also dismissed the allegations about his possible appointment as prime minister.

"I am sorry but this time, I am not going to hand in my resignation. I have changed my mind; I do not want to become prime minister. There will be a cabinet reshuffle but the prime minister will not be changed. We are at the threshold of municipal elections. We have no reason to hurry. Serzh Sargsyan will be sworn in as the country's forth president on April 9, and the government will be dissolved within a month," said Mr Abrahamyan.
The NA speaker also confirmed the reports about his meeting with former Yerevan Mayor Karen Karapetyan. He said they maintain good relationship, without revealing more details about the meeting.
