Mirzakhanyan, raise salaries
Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan has given instructions to raise the salaries of lecturers of Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) by 40%.
Tigran Sargsyan, who is Chairman of the Council of ASPU after K. Abovian, conducted a regular meeting of the university council on September 24. The participants discussed the report on the results of pilot institutional accreditation at ASPU. The report was submitted by the National Center for Professional Education Quality Assurance.
The necessity of involving young lecturers in work of the pedagogical university was raised at the meeting. Speaking about their small number, the prime minister said: «It is a fact that one of the primary forms of encouraging young scientists is the financial one. Mr. Mirzakhanyan, last year I instructed you to raise salaries by 40%, and you did it. I believe, however, that this amount is insufficient. I order you to raise the salaries of your lecturers by another 40% this year».
As regards the instructions, ASPU rector Ruben Mirzakhanyan noted that by the end of the year the salaries of some 900 members of the university's faculty will rise by another 40%.
In response to a student's remark who said that graduates currently cannot find work as employers require them to have work experience, Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan said that in accordance with the prime minister's instructions, they now work on a legislative package to deal with the problem. By the draft, the years of study will be cobsidered as work experience, which will facilitate young people's entrance into the civil service and the private sector.
