Tevan Poghosyan to pick up mandate
The Executive Director of the International Center for Human Development (ICHD), Tevan Poghosyan, who is supposed to replace Heritage Party Leader Raffi Hovannisian in parliament, will return to Yerevan on Tuesday.
Last week, Mr. Hovannisian announced his decision to give up his seat in parliament. Following the move, Heritage Spokesman Hovsep Khurshudyan, said it was still unknown who would pick up Hovannisian's mandate as there were no changes in the party's proportional ticket. At the same time, he mentioned that Tevan Poghosyan is the next candidate in line on the party ticket.
With Poghosyan being absent from the country, several names were circulated as the possible candidate.
A1+ Company has managed to contact Mr. Poghosyan.
"I have been attending international conferences. Now it is time to move forward. Mr. Hovannisian resigned his seat and now I have 15 days to take another important decision. Surely, I am not going to refuse the mandate and I am thankful to Mr. Hovannisian and the party for the trust they have in me. Still in April, they invited me to join the electoral list of the party. A lot has changed since then but two things have remained unchanged for me.
First, I shall remain resolute in my decision to raise the voice of the civil society in the National Assembly. I shall try to offer alternative solutions to the existing problems and defend the interests of this layer in the decision-making process.
Second, I am going to continue the team work with my party, sharing all difficulties on our way both during the 2013 presidential elections and during the implementation of our programs in the coming five years," he said.
In the next two weeks, Tevan Poghosyan will be engaged in the activity of the ICHD.
