Aram Sargsyan, Chairman of the Hanrapetutyun (Republic) party that withdrew from the Armenian National Congress (HAK) earlier this year, recently said he is going to actively participate in the 2013 presidential race.
"I can be a soldier and a comamnder," Sargsyan said when speaking about the format of his participation.

Asked whether the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) sees Aram Sargsyan [who will likely enjoy the support of the West] as a serious contender for Serzh Sargsyan, HHK faction spokesman Hovhannes Sahakyan said, "We have our candidate, our programs and ideas connected with the presidential elections, the type and model of governance. It is up to the candidates to decide where to be nominated and who to be supported by. I am convinced that during the elections we shall win a landslide victory and have a president elected in the result of free and fair elections. If there are forces that will try to measure forces with us, I see nothing unusal or tragic in it."
