Will Vartan Ghukasyan back Samvel Balasanyan?
Gyumri Mayor Vartan Ghukasyan has not left the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (HHK), Lilit Aghekyan, a spokesperson for Ghukasyan, told A1+.
Ghukasyan has resigned as head of the HHK branch in Shirak province, she added.
According to press reports, Vartan Ghukasyan has already tendered his resignation to quit the HHK. Lilit Aghekyan, however, refuted the information saying that her boss has not written any letter of withdrawal. At the same time, she did not rule out that Ghukasyan may seek reelection in the upcoming local polls.
"Everything will be clear in August when candidates start submitting applications," she said.
Asked whether Ghukasyan is going to run in the elections despite the party's decision to back Samvel Balasanyan, a mayoral candidate from the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK), Lilit Aghekyan said, "It is up to Vartan Ghukasyan to decide."
Does it mean that Mr. Ghukasyan is to abide by the party's decision and back Balasanyan in the upcoming polls, Lilit Aghekyan said, "I have nothing else to say."
in the meantime, Ruben Tadevosyan, Chairman of the HHK Organizational committee, said, "All our party-mates are bound by the party's decisions."
