Can France conduct inspections?
France is considering the possibility of returning the bill penalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide to the agenda, France's Ambassador to Armenia Henri Reynaud told reporters on Wednesday.
"President of France Francois Hollande will stay committed to his pre-election pledge and put the bill into circulation again," said the French official.
Henri Reynaud stressed that ‘it is France's initiative' and they were not pressurized by any country.
The French Ambassador says the OSCE mediators have intensified their efforts towards resolving the Karabakh conflict
In reply to A1+ whether his country cannot take practical steps and carry out inspections of armament, given the obvious breach of the treaty on Conventional Arms Control in Europe by Azerbaijan, Ambassador Henri Reynaud cited the recent statement of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair countries that there is no alternative to the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.
"The OSCE Co-Chairs urged the [conflicting] sides to strictly observe the ceasefire and refrain from making belligerent statements. With their clear-cut statement [which is void of ambiguity] the mediators overtly demonstrated their approach to the problem. With regard to the inspections I can say that they are possible only within the framework of laws envisaged by the OSCE," said the Ambassador.
The Ambassador met journalist on the eve of French Independence Day, July 14, when the French people commemorates the storming of the Bastille, a symbol of despotism, where hundreds of political prisoners were held captive.
During the press conference, Henri Reynaud stressed that his country is a song advocate of universal system of values and rejects any violation or encroachment against these values.
