D. Harutyun does not rule out disclosure of March 1 clashes
The resolution adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on June 29, 2012, redresses PACE Resolution 1837 adopted last autumn which says ‘the chapter on the March 2008 events can finally be considered closed.'
In the resolution on "The Progress of the Assembly's Monitoring Procedure," PACE expresses its concern that the ten casualties that occurred during the 2008 events in Armenia have not been disclosed to this date.
The Armenian delegations is not surprised that this resolution also refers to the March 1, 2008 clashes. PACE will always put the issue on its agenda unless the deadly clashes are disclosed.
"The chapter of the March 2008 events can never be closed until the crime is fully disclosed," says Davit Harutyunyan, Head of the Armenian delegation to PACE.
He says the investigation into the bloody clashes is ongoing but unfortunately there isn't any new information that may help identify the perpetrators of the clashes.
Asked whether the clashes will ever be disclosed, Mr Harutyunyan did not rule out the possibility.
Zaruhi Postanjyan, a member of the Armenian delegation to PACE, is not surprised that the Monitoring Committee keeps the March 2008 events in the spotlight though she says PACE will not be helpful to Armenia.
"The structure focuses on political issues rather than on human rights," she stressed.
