Elections over in Greece and France

The leader of Greece's center-right, pro-bailout New Democracy party claimed "a victory for all Europe" after topping Sunday's parliamentary elections, a vote seen as a referendum on the survival of the continent's common currency. New Democracy is supposed to form a coalition with the Socialists.

Unlike Greece, Socialists have won victory in France. President François Hollande's Socialists and their allies won an absolute majority in runoff parliamentary elections on Sunday, strengthening the hand of Mr. Hollande both at home and in Europe, where he is pressing for less austerity and more growth in the face of a deepening recession.

Socialists are supposed to take 314 seats in the French Senate.
