Tamoyan: “Shouldn’t there have been at least one Yezdi in the NA?”
Support A1+!The Yezdi community of Armenia cast a minimum of 20,000 votes for the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) in the May 6 parliamentary elections. This is what leader of the Union of Yezdi of Armenia Aziz Tamoyan said during a press conference today.
"I'm a member of the Republican Party of Armenia. You should ask the HHK why no Yezdi was elected. It would be desired, but what can we do?" said the Yezdi leader.
According to him, the HHK could have at least given one deputy mandate to the Yezdi community in exchange for the 20,000 votes.
"If they don't think it's appropriate for ethnic minorities to be represented in parliament, that is their right and we agree with that. But there is also a law that states that at least one person has to be in the National Assembly by a social order," said Aziz Tamoyan.
Aziz Tamoyan says even if the Yezdi don't find themselves in the next parliaments, they will stay true to the Armenian authorities, regardless of which political party the primary figure of the country will be part of.
"Ethnic minorities have to stand by the authorities' side. It doesn't matter if we get elected or not, it is our duty to stand by the government's side," said the leader of the Yezdi on behalf of all ethnic minorities in Armenia.
Tamoyan says the Yezdi can't earn a living with cattle-raising and agriculture and are currently emigrating.
"They have found an easy route by emigrating. They are provided with funding and housing abroad," said Aziz Tamoyan.
