Armenian FM: “Turkey unlocks discussion of the issue”
Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian and Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan participated on May 22 at the opening of Armenian Heritage Park and unveiling of a memorial to the victims of the 1915 Armenian genocide in the city of Boston.
The Armenian Foreign Minister expressed gratitude to the authorities of Boston and Massachusetts State for supporting the initiative of the local Armenian community. He also thanked the local Armenian structures for uniting their efforts and implementing the project.
"This initiative became a reality on the eve of the Armenian Genocide centenary. It re-confirms that every and each Armenian living in the world will continue to demand recognition and justice. All those who are concerned with peaceful future of humanity should second the fair demands of the Armenian people," said Minister Nabnadian.
"Our joint efforts seem to be yielding positive results. Turkey has started discussing an issue which was put under lock for a century. In this regard, I find the call of Turkish businessman Ishak Alaton to be symbolic. Let us make our voice audible in the Turkish parliament, let's respect the memory of the innocent victims and confront the reality. More and more people in Turkey are starting to think like Alaton. Commemoration ceremonies in Istanbul and other Turkish cities come to prove the belief.
"I hope the park will become a pilgrimage site for genocide survivors as well as descendants of the genocide perpetrators who will come here to lay flowers to the innocent victims," he said.
