YSLU student detained /updated/
Environmental activist Mikael Nazaryan, a student of Yerevan State Linguistic University after V. Brusov (YSLU) and a member of the Free Students Forum, was detained today morning after he was called to a police station for "interrogation."
Nazaryan had not received any notice or writ. Presently, he is in the special investigation department with his lawyer.
A group of environmental activists and YSLU students are waiting for Nazaryan's release outside the building, reports the civil initiative campaigning for the protection of Tegut forest.
Nineteen-year-old Mikael was released later in the day after being kept at the police station for three hours.
"Someone called me and introduced himself as a representative of the Ministry of Education and Science. He said I was to meet him to sign some documents and we arranged to meet outside the main building of Yerevan State Linguistic University. When I arrived at the site, I found law-enforcers instead," Mikael said after leaving the police station.
Mikael was called for interrogation in connection with a balloon blast that occurred at Yerevan's Liberty Square on May 4.
"During the interrogation I understood that I was suspected of instigating the explosion," he said.
At the police station, Mikael said he had been about 7-10 meters away from the scene of the explosion, which was confirmed by his friends. Mikael was also injured during the explosion while trying to help those injured.
At least 154 people were hospitalized after the May 4 blast in Yerevan's Liberty Square which occurred during a concert organized by the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (HHK).
