“May the deceased rest in peace, the living have the right to vote”
The last days of the election campaign in the previous elections
The election campaign during the last week of the 1995 NA elections was heated. A dispute began during deputy candidate Manuk gasparyan's meeting with voters at precinct N 50 and led to clashes and a gunshot. Manuk Gasparyan was running in the same precinct that Chairman of the then Supreme Council Babken Ararktsyan was running.
On the last day of the election campaign, Babken Ararktsyan promised international observers that the NA elections would be held based on the principles of democracy.
The 1999 NA elections struck the eye with widespread discrepancies in voters' lists. During the last week of the election campaign, the Central Electoral Commission received information according to which there were 60,000 duplicated names in the voters' lists in Shirak province. The alliance of socialist forces sounded the alarm. The last names of 300 voters were the same at one of the polling stations in Arabkir district of Yerevan, 600 people were born on the same day (January 1, 1990) in the voters lists of one of the polling stations in Kanaker-Zeytun district. The voters in precinct N 11 including the Kond district of Yerevan organized a demonstration with signs reading "May the Deceased Rest in Peace and the Living Have the Right to Vote" in front of the CEC. 1,200 voters had been left out of the voters lists in that precinct.
In 1999, the explosions at the election headquarters continue. First, anonymous people burn Vachik Adilkhanyan's headquarters, and leader of the Constitutional Rights Union Hrant Khachatryan's headquarters are burned a day before the elections.
