The Egyptian parliament has started setting forth several bills that are based on the laws of the Shariat.

The deputies want to reduce the girls' age of marriage to 14, which will essentially reduce women's rights to education and labor. For instance, women aren't allowed to hold high offices.

According to the Egyptian Al-Ahram newspaper's information according to which Islamist deputies intend to present a bill that allows men to have sex with their wives has caused the concern of the non-Islamist part of the Egyptian parliament.

The parliament's "Muslim Brothers" faction and several deputies have denied the adoption of that bill. They believe the adoption of such a bill is nothing but an intrigue provoked by Hosni Mubarak's supporters in order to increate their candidate, Ahmed Shafik's chances of winning in the country's presidential elections to be held on May 23-24.
