Police pledge not to attention to 'blood ties’
Public confidence in electoral processes is still very low in Armenia, head of the European Union delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Traian Hristea said in Yerevan on Friday.
During today's roundtable organized by the Armenian Police, the EU official highlighted the role of police and confidence-building activities.
Tigran Sedrakyan, a representative of the campaign headquarters of the opposition Armenian National Congress (HAK), said they had already reported on electoral fraud but "none of the cases of electoral bribery has been revealed to date."
"Bribery, in general, is difficult to detect and even more difficult to eliminate. Its detection can take years," said Deputy Chief of Armenia's Police Hunan Poghosyan,
The police representatives announced that when disclosing election violations and fraud they would not take into account any blood or other ties. The task group formed in the police will be responsible to compile reports on electoral violations and consequently take appropriate steps.
With regard to inaccuracies found on electoral rolls, President of the Central Election Commission Tigram Mukuchyan said ‘many of inconsistencies have been addressed.'
