HHK is powerful, though diffident
The Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) is so powerful that any system, any economic structure even the one that has oligarchs in its infrastructures, can rely on it, said Republican MP Vardan Ayvazyan.
He excludes the opposite scenario, saying his party does not rely on the support of oligarchs. Anyway, the Republican MP is not convinced that his party might obtain an absolute majority during the May 6 parliamentary elections.
"We shall be glad to take most of the seats in Parliament since the supreme goal of any political force is to get its hands on the levers of political power in order to implement its ideas," said the Republican representative.
Unlike his colleague, Republican Rafik Petrosyan sounded more optimistic.
"The Republican Party of Armenia will continue to play a significant role in the life of the country and our people," he said.
Many eminent figures of the party have recently expressed intention to rejuvenate the party; however, the party's spokesman Eduard Sharmazanov dismissed the reports saying, "Politics should not be confused with army where people are recruited upon becoming 18. Politics combines experience and youth."
Though the Republican Party of Armenia has not yet published its party list, Mr Sharmazanov knows who will be included in it.
"We shall involve people who are ready to implement the reforms envisaged in our pre-election program," the HHK spokesman said adding that his party is ready to cooperate with all forces, including their rivals, in order to conduct free and transparent elections in Armenia.
"The Republican Party of Armenia has taken responsibility to hold transparent elections and is not going to fight with other forces. Our objective is to gain the votes of our citizens who trust our ideology and believe us," said Mr Ayvazyan.
