UN disseminates NKR MFA declaration
At the request of Armenia's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Karen Nazaryan to the UN Secretary General, the declaration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic on the 1992 events of Khojalu has been issued as an official document of the General Assembly and the Security Council.
Ambassador Nazaryan mentions that Azerbaijan has made false statements regarding the mentioned events several times and recalls that the international community, including the European Court of Human Rights and several international law defense organizations, has called on releasing the Azerbaijani journalists and lawyers who have called Azerbaijan's version of the events of Khojalu into question.
The declaration of the NKR Ministry of Foreign Affairs disseminated in the UN presents the details on the military operations that took place in that period and mentions that "...in the context of the Karabakh conflict, the topic of "Khojalu" is still one of the cornerstones of Azerbaijan's internal and external information, better yet, misinformation policy."
The declaration also mentions that "all facts clearly show that Azerbaijan is to blame for the death of the peaceful residents of Khojalu and was the one that committed a monstrous crime against the people due to political intrigues and to keep power."
By regularly using the "Khojalu" playing card, the official Baku is trying to distract the international community's attention from the Armenian massacres organized in Sumgait, Baku, Kirovabad, Khanlar and other residences of Azerbaijan, as well as the residential areas bordering the NKR, particularly Maraga village where the subdivisions of the Azerbaijani army brutally massacred nearly 100 peaceful residents in April 1992.
Last week, during the subsequent debates held at the Security Council in New York, Armenia's Ambassador to the UN mentioned that the Armenians in Azerbaijan were subject to massacres and horrible assaults merely because of their national belonging and considered Azerbaijan's speculation of the events of Khojalu absurd.
The text of the declaration was provided by the Department of Press, Information and Public Relations of the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
