Suggests Aznavour transfer home
Film director Tigran Khzmalyan has sent an open letter to National Hero of Armenia, RA Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Switzerland, Sir Charles Aznavour.
"Distinguished Maestro,
The French Senate's recent adoption of the bill criminalizing Armenian Genocide denial was not only a victory in justice and politics, but also the result of the longstanding struggle of Armenian individuals and organizations, and you have made an invaluable contribution to that. However, those same values of civilization (freedom of speech and rallies), which make the establishment of justice possible in general remain "imprisoned" in Armenia.
The anti-democratic regime that has come to power in Armenia is currently trying to put on the comedy called "elections" through fraud and pressure in order to ensure its regeneration. This will lead to the increase of the country's foreign debt, the rise of emigration and will cause a threat to the great environmental catastrophe in eco-colonization.
All the attempts of different layers of civil society, initiatives, resistance groups and movements to fix the situation to a certain extent, to inform the people about the current dangers, to hold public discourse and meetings are met with hindrances created by the authorities. The authorities don't provide halls and implement the information blockade through the presses and television stations belonging to the oligarchs that are closely linked to the authorities. The mentioned bans are particularly targeted against the "Sardarapat" Movement.
In these conditions, I appeal to you with a request and a proposal to transfer your home-museum provided by the Armenian authorities for the needs of Armenia's civil society in order to ensure the constitutional rights to speech and rallies and turn it into an area for real free speech, just as it corresponds to your name and international reputation," as stated in the letter.
