Saakashvili invited to White House
U.S. President Barack Obama today received his Georgian counterpart Mikheil Saakashvili at the Oval Office of the White House.
Political commentators have emphasized the meeting, especially at the threshold of the 2012 parliamentary and 2013 presidential elections in Georgia.
The meeting agenda has aroused different assumptions among experts.
"Georgia is attempting to kill two birds with one stone. First, the Georgian President strives to insure his country against any pending danger from Russia. Second, Georgia tries to prove that it remains loyal to the United Statesand is ready to host its ally [the U.S.] when the latter decided to attack Iran," Kommersant writes.
According to the same source, Georgian independent expert Georgi Nodia said that the problems with Iran strengthen relations between the U.S. and Georgia.
