Sargsyan, Aliyev to meet in January
The Presidents of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan have agreed to hold another meeting in January to discuss Karabakh peace deal, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said on January 16.
The venue of the meeting is not yet specified. Minister Nalbandian noted that the current trilateral format of Karabakh settlement talks has proved viable and effective.
"I am hopeful that meetings in this format will continue in the future," he said.
Speaking about the investigation of incidents along the line of contact between Azerbaijan and Nagorno Karbakh armed forces, the Minsiter reminded the presentees that an agreement had been achieved between Serzh Sargsyan, Ilham Aliyev and Dmitry Medvedev during the Sochi meeting on March 5, 2011.
As for the failure to fulfill the agreement to work out mechanisms of investigating the incidents at the line of contact, Nalbandian said Azerbaijan hampers the process. Moreover, Azerbaijan is trying to show that no agreement was achieved in Sochi. Then, he cited Azerbaijan's threats to veto OSCE Minsk Group's proposal to include expenses for investigation of contact line casualties in 2012 budget.
"Thus, Baku proved another time that it is not going to fulfill its commitments," he said.
Summarizing the work done by the Armenian Foreign Ministry in 2011, Mr. Nalbandian said the Ministry registered progress in all directions.
"2011 reconfirmed the accord in the positions of Armenia and the international community on the settlement of the Karabakh conflict, and the developments came to prove the correctness and effectiveness of the strategy chosen," he concluded.
