"Even though Russia has wonderful relations with Ankara, it has to take into account the growing influence of Turkey's economy on the region where it traditionally has interests," writes "Nezavisimaya Gazeta".

Touching upon Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan's demand to reconsider the bill criminalizing Armenian Genocide denial passed by the French parliament during a meeting with Nikola Sarkozy, the newspaper writes: "In 2009, Erdogan put President of Israel Simon Peres in his place during the Davos Economic Forum. Now he is causing uproar against a larger country, especially a NATO-member state. The Turkish Prime Minister's voice is becoming coarser."

According to "Nezavisimaya Gazeta", Turkey's imperative tone is explained with the country's growing economy and its influence on the world. One of Erdogan's allusions to the European Union, saying "Look at us and look at the situation in Europe", was not by chance.

The newspaper writes that Turkey has lost interest in European integration and is now trying to strengthen ties with the United States.

"Turkey has set aside the political course for disputing with neighboring countries. It is now actively participating in the events taking place in Syria and endangering its friendly ties with Iran," the newspaper concludes, adding that Turkey's interests are not only limited to the region.
