Sargsyan participates in CSTO council sitting

During the working visit to Moscow, Serzh Sargsyan today participated in the sitting of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).

The sitting kicked off with a meeting of the heads of CSTO-member states and was followed by a wide-format meeting.

The presidency of the CSTO was transferred from Belarus to Kazakhstan.

During the sitting, the heads of CSTO-member states signed 23 joint documents on the improvement of the collective security system, the increase in the organization's potential, as well as the deepening of military and military-technical partnership.

Important decisions were adopted on the rearmament of special subdivisions of the OSCE Rapid Reaction Forces, the formation of a system for ensuring information security, the fight against the illegal circulation of narcotics and terrorism, as well as the general measures for counterattacking threats from Afghanistan and the challenges.

Changes were made in the CSTO rules and regulations with the purpose of contributing more to the institutional reinforcement of the organization. The CSTO also adopted a plan of events to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Collective Security Treaty and the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the CSTO.

After the sitting of the CSTO Collective Security Council, Serzh Sargsyan will participate in the session of heads of CIS-member states.
