France won’t buy oil from Iran
France will no longer purchase oil from Iran. This is what representative of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bernard Valero announced today.
He also informed that the application of sanctions against Iran will be presented for discussion during the session of the EU-countries' Foreign Ministers Council and later the EU Summit.
Before that, French President Nikola Sarkozy had made a call for applying unprecedented sanctions against Iran by not only stopping oil trade, but also freezing Iran's foreign reserves in the Central Bank.
This year, EU countries had 18 percent share of Iran's oil exports, of which France imported only 2 percent (49,000 barrels a day).
We remind that U.S. President Barack Obama yesterday made a statement on applying new sanctions against Iran. According to those sanctions, all countries that help Tehran develop and expand its oil resources will be punished.
We mention that Armenia and Iran have agreements on several energetic projects, including the construction of the Iran-Armenia oil pipeline, the oil reprocessing factory and the hydro-electric station on the Arax River located in Meghri. The Iran-Armenia oil pipeline construction is scheduled to end in 2014.
