Speaker of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Eduard Sharmazanov says people should not pay much attention to the Sunday municipal elections in Armenia's northern city of Ijevan as a result of which RPA candidate Varujan Nersisyan lost to his contender of Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) Vardan Ghalumyan.

"In majority of cases (70 percent) our candidates win elections. Victory is not an end in itself for the Republican Party," said the RPA Spokesman.

With regard to allegations that the BHK candidate bribed voters, Sharmazanov said, "All illegal phenomena are condemnable irrespective of one's party affiliation."

BHK MP Naira Zohrabyan says the rumours on vote buying are exaggerated.

"All that took place was another mayoral election in Ijevan and local residents gave their vote of confidence to our candidate," she said.

The BHK MP says there is no point in estimating the election in the political context or linking it with BHK-RPA relations.

"I am once again convinced that in not only Armenian mythology, but also in politics, the most acceptable fairy tale is "The Death of Kikos," she said.
