The Islamic solidarity, the anti-Western moods of several UN-member states and simply the large amounts granted to third world countries helped Azerbaijan become a member of the UN Security Council. This is what expert of the Caucasus Institute, political scientist Sergey Minasyan told "A1+".

According to him, Azerbaijan might use its two-year membership as an instrument for propaganda, but it won't achieve any real outcome in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement.

"In this issue, there is consensus of at least three countries that are permanent members of the SC, including France, Russia and the United States, and I don't think Azerbaijan will be able to push any resolution in the Security Council," Minasyan said.

According to Minasyan, Azerbaijan's use of its membership as an instrument for information may lead to the counter-influence of countries of the Great Five. In addition, Armenia may also apply its instruments, for instance, recognize the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.

"Azerbaijan often takes advantage of the fact that many countries simply have no idea of the essence of the NK conflict and tries to push its views forward through the expansion of information, but in vain," the expert mentioned, referring to the election of Turkey's representative to the PACE Cavusoglu in the office of president, which, according to Minasyan, didn't lead Azerbaijan to any outcome.

The expert says Azerbaijan's success in the elections for the UN SC membership is equal to the success of the countries (Gabo, Togo, Guatemala, Morocco and Pakistan) that Sergey Minasyan believes say a lot.

"Many countries have become non-permanent members of the UN SC through the inertia of the Cold War, but have neither met the standards of democracy nor have they reached great success in economy," the expert said in closing.
