Gaspari demands to sue Police Chief Alik Sargsyan
On the day of the government's next sitting, Vardges Gaspari, an activist of the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC), promises to go and stand on the same place where he was during his detention on October 20.
"Let the minister walk a few steps more. He must finally understand that people should not be driven away to enable him to reach his car," Gaspari told A1+.
The ANC activist was detained on Thursday while attending a non-partisan protest outside the prime minister's office against continuing non-combat deaths of Armenian soldiers. The several dozen protesters chanted "Shame!" when the chief of the national police, Alik Sargsian, emerged from the government building after taking part in a cabinet session. They also blocked his way.
Sargsian's bodyguards scuffled with the protesters to enable him to get to his limousine parked nearby. Gaspari hurled abuse at the police general in the meantime.
He was forced into a police car and driven away shortly afterwards. Gaspari was suspected of hooliganism however, he was released on Saturday on bail of 800 000 drams.
The ANC activist claims that the police actions were illegal and politically motivated in order to prevent his future participation in various protest actions. He says criminal proceedings should be launched against the investigator and witnesses who gave false testimony against him.
"One of the witnesses, a police officer, said I had elbowed him and pushed a few others, but his ‘testimony' still needs to be proved," said Gaspari demanding to sue Alik Sargsyan for his disrespectful and immoral attitude towards the civil society.
