NPP staff ready to return to work for the sake of Armenia
The workers of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant are ready to return to work despite their threats to unilaterally terminating their contracts with the plant administration.
Today they were received by Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Armen Movsisyan who promised to ensure significant pay rises demanded by the plant workers. The official, however, promised to raise the wages by 10-15 percent although the protesters had demanded a 50 percent pay increase.
Though the plant employees are dissatisfied with the minister's decision, they are going to continue their work in the plant ‘for the sake of Armenia and its security.'
"We do not seek to disrupt the operation of this strategically important plant, but we think that our demand is fair because the current wages are humiliating," the workers told A1+.
Some 158 employees of the plant last week submitted their resignations after the plant administration failed to meet their demand for 50% salary increase. The average salary in the plant is AMD 210 000, but the employees say they are ready to leave Armenia and find jobs abroad. They believe they will be paid more overseas as they are professionals in the sphere.
