Landslide-affected area converted into tent town
A small tent town has formed in Armenia's Tavush marz for rescuers and volunteers who continue search works in the landslide-affected area.
An operational headquarters has opened on the site at the head of Armen Yeritsyan, Minister of Emergency Situations.
A major landslide hit the 86th km of Vanadzor-Bagratashen highway, near Ayrum station on October 2, causing a major collapse in the vicinities of Ayrum station, near the border with Georgia. The 130-meter-long and 60-meter-deep terrain covered the road, rendering it completely impassable and trapping 35 vehicles.
Five people were declared missing as a result of the natural disaster. After eight days of intense work, today rescuers found the bodies of Armen and Mekhak Sorsumatyans in a Mercedes C car. Three more people remain missing -Gurgen Hakobyan, his son Arthur Hakobyan (both citizens of Georgia) and Norik Mirzoyan (resident of Lchkadzor village).
