National interests prevent HAK in struggle against authorities
The opposition Armenian National Congress (HAK) could have caused a change of power but for the national interest and Karabakh issue, leader of the Democratic Motherland party Petros Makeyan told a press conference on Sept. 28.
"We have weighed the option many times, preferring the national interest to the change of power," he said adding that the HAK started a dialogue with the government solely for the national interest.
Makeyan says the opposition expected the authorities to behave in the same way and hand in their resignations.
"Unfortunately, our authorities do not care for Armenia's future. And we have nothing else to do but call for their resignation under massive pressure," he said.
Member of the ruling Republican Party Mkrtich Minasyan advised Makeyan to wait for the next regular elections.
"We have time to prepare for fair elections. We just offer you to discuss the existing problems together," said Minasyan.
"You will never change," said Makeyan.
"And you are lulling people in order to rig elections and make a deal with the international community and superpowers," Makeyan said stressing that Arab bloody revolutions need not be repeated in Armenia.
