Open letter to German Ambassador
Ruben Torosayan, President of the Center of Parliamentarism of Armenia, has addressed an open letter to German Ambassador Hans-Jochen Schmidt.
"Mr. Ambassador,
Speaking at the Civilitas Foundation on September 27, you blamed Armenia's first President for the country's grave situation instead of resting the responsibility upon the illegitimate authorities formed in the result of rigged elections. In fact, your statement raises serious concerns.
Perhaps you could explain with the same German discipline why the same illegitimate authorities, who have earned your confidence, have been unable to establish democracy in Armenia, even after the country become a CoE member.
Let us leave aside the fact that such evaluations are incompatible with your diplomatic mission. Armenians still remember the reasons that account for German gratitude towards Armenian authorities.
The problem is that you are advocating hopeless future for Armenians, justifying the illegitimacies in Armenia. At the same time you are trying to conceal the unfounded support of your officials for Armenian authorities in a most crucial issue - conduction of free and illegitimate elections.
Is this apparent ignorance towards Armenian people or resuscitation of the ideas of your fellow countryman?
You had better blame Armenia's first President for not choosing the right target during his large-scale rallies, this target being European offices and foreign embassies in Armenian.
The country's first leader had better organize a rally in front of the German Embassy in Armenia, especially after the visit of the German co-rapporteur of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) and his distorted report on Armenia ... though it can still be realized," reads the letter.
