Bloody clashes or concessions?
"The time has come for the people to enter the game again and make the authorities hear their voices through the large turnout of rallies, determination and concrete actions," Armenian National Congress coordinator Levon Zurabyan told journalists today.
"With the wave of the ANC's rallies, the authorities will be compelled to make concessions and start dialogue. However, they are halfway in reforms, thinking that the tension has eased and there is no need for further concessions," said Zurabyan.
According to him, the authorities don't realize that the tension has eased because the people expect to see the fulfillment of its demands through dialogue.
"Now we must state that the authorities don't sense the situation," said Zurabyan, calling on the people to show up to the state rally on September 30.
He mentioned that the upcoming rally would become a forum for the people's self-governance and would help determine what actions the opposition will be taking.
According to Mr. Zurabyan, it is up to the authorities to choose the form and content of the future interior political developments.
"When the people stand up, the authorities must decide which option to choose. They either have to be civilized in order to meet the people's demands, or they have to go toward a civil war and bloody clashes," said the ANC coordinator.
He voiced hope that the Armenian authorities would be "so civilized" that they would reject the second option.
