NA Chairman in Germany
The multi-member delegation led by NA Chairman Hovik Abrahamyan, including Head of the Armenia-Germany Friendship Group Artak Davtyan, Chief of Staff of the National Assembly Gegham Gharibjanyan and Armenian Ambassador to Germany Armen Martirosyan, visited Johannes Lepsius's house-museum in Potsdam during the working visit to Germany on September 26.
According to the department of relations with the public and the media of the RA National Assembly, Hovik Abrahamyan toured Lepsius's house-museum and had a meeting with the museum's scientific workers. Director of the house-museum Hans-Ulrich Schultz, who is also president of the board of the Johannes Lepsius NGO, introduced the Armenian delegates to the life and career of Lepsius in detail.
Let us remind that German public figure, clergyman and Oriental studies expert Johannes Lepsius had condemned the Turkish authorities' policy on eliminating the Armenians in the beginning of the last century and had demanded that the German government make efforts to put an end to the Armenian massacres.
In his speech, Hovik Abrahamyan said Lepsius's role "in initiating the process of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide" was invaluable and that the Armenian people remember Lepsius with gratitude since "he was the first to raise his voice against the Ottoman Turks' massive slaughter and elimination of the Armenians in his works and articles."
At the end, the NA Chairman left an note in the house-museum's book for honorable guests. Then, the delegation led by Hovik Abrahamyan visited Sesil Hof where the famous Potsdam Conference was held in 1945.
Today Hovik Abrahamyan will meet with Chairman of the German Bundestag Norbert Lamert, and in the evening the delegates will participate in a concert and official reception dedicated to the 20th anniversary of independence of the Republic of Armenia at the Grand Concert Hall in Berlin.
