Tigran Arakelyan, an activist of the opposition Armenian National Congress (HAK), was detained deliberately to suspend the government-opposition dialogue, Secretary of the People's Party of Armenia (HZhK) Grigor Harutyunyan said on Monday.

His opponent Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) MP Vardan Bostanjyan disagreed with him, saying the dialogue was disrupted by the HAK.

"As soon as Arakelyan was detained you declared him to be a political prisoner and decided to discontinue the talks," said Bostanjyan.

Grigor Harutyunyan reiterated that the HAK calls for snap elections as the only way out of the grave socio-economic situation while Bostanjyan said that there are not legal and political prerequisites for early elections.

"If the opposition wants, it can grasp the power, but we are not going to cede it," said the BHK member.
