Opposition-government talks should focus on economic issues
The second stage of talks between the opposition Armenian National Congress (HAK) and ruling coalition is scheduled for July 26 in the government building.
Still, the dialogue seems to have inspired only political circles; ordinary citizens do not pin great hopes on the talks. Our fellow citizens have doubts that the talks will lead to serious changes.
"It is important that the sides reach a compromise, it will benefit our people," said Anahit Kostanian.
"Dialogue is a way to avoid confrontations and shocks, hence it should be continued," said Paruyr Yenokyan.
Tamara Tovmasyan hailed the dialogue saying it is a way to make public voice audible to the authorities.
"Only through peaceful talks can the authorities take the country out of the grave socio-economic situation," our respondents said unanimously.
"Once they have sat at a round table, they should discuss economic issues. The government has recorded no progress in the past three years. People are starving, we must put an end to this mess," said Petros Babayan.
Historian Eleanora Torgomyan, who is living abroad and is in Armenia on a short visit, thinks that alongside with external threats the opposition and government should hold discussions over moral consciousness of a nation which has reached "the lowest level in all spheres."
The fist meeting of coalition and opposition delegates took place on July 18.
