MD to provide temporary home?
Due to lack of a place to call home, disabled freedom fighter Hakob Tadevosyan, his wife and four children stood in front of the RA Ministry of Defense until late at night. Today the freedom fighter left his children at his friends' house and continued to stand in front of the ministry building. He is asking for a temporary home since he no longer has money to live on rent. He has been registered for an apartment at the RA Ministry of Defense for five years running.
"A1+" asked the Defense Minister's press secretary David Karapetyan, who responded that Minister Seyran Ohanyan had assigned to keep the issue of providing freedom fighters with apartments in the center of attention as much as possible.
However, David Karapetyan also mentioned that even though Ministry of Defense is not obliged to provide temporary homes to registered families by law, it may extend a helping hand in difficult situations.
"If, for instance, 300 families appeal for temporary homes, we won't be able to help them. But if there are five families, we will try to do something," said the defense minister's press secretary.
However, it is still unclear as to whether the Tadevosyans will be given a temporary home or not.
In January 2011, family members of 2,600 deceased freedom fighters or disabled freedom fighters were registered at the Ministry of Defense for receiving homes or having their apartments renovated.
According to the RA Defense Minister's press secretary David Karapetyan, the ministry is currently unable to provide apartments due to the ministry's and the government's lack of funding.
"Every year, the Ministry of Defense improves living conditions for dozens of families. We can't follow the sequence; otherwise, there will be a wave of protest," said David Karapetyan.
Let us mention that 25 billion drams is required for providing 2,600 families with homes.
