Pork prices have gone up in Armenia by 400 drams to near 2200-3300 drams.

"We have forgotten how pork tastes. How long can we endure the rise in prices? We cannot even afford our bare necessities with our 24 000-dram pension; we do not know what to do - to pay utility bills or buy food," said Yerevan citizen Gohar.

Greengrocer Ruzanna Hakobyan says well-off people continue to buy fruit and vegetables in the market.
"Everything is expensive today. People can live without fruit but they live without bread, butter and meat," she said.

Butcher Eghishe Gziryan says the increase in pork prices has a seasonal character.

"In summer people frequently go out for a picnic, therefore meat is in great demand today," he said adding that people gradually get used to new prices.
Today one could see few buyers at Yerevan's "GUM" market where tomato was sold at 250-300 drams per k and, apricot at 300 drams. The best apricot cost 1500 drams.

Note that the National Statistical Service recently recorded deflation across the country.
