French President Nicholas Sarkozy addressed a message to his Armenian counterpart Serzh Sargsyan on the threshold of a trilateral meeting of Armenian, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents set to take place in Kazan on June 24.

Sarkozy encouraged the sides to finalize and endorse the basic principles of Karabakh conflict settlement as a continuation of a statement made by the Presidents of the U.S., Russia and France in Deauville in May. The French leader said that the time has come to verify the principles which could henceforth serve as a basis for future talks over the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

The French President stressed that in certain moments in history leaders of states should show their people the right path to peace, brevity and wisdom. The time has matured for Armenia and Azerbaijan to take an important decision, he underlined.

"As your friend and sister, France conveys its best wishes to Armenia during the Kazan meeting. My country will spare no effort to support you at this decisive moment," said Sarkozy.
